BKIND
BKIND is a Canadian brand making vegan, cruelty-free skincare and hair care with as little packaging as it can manage — scrubs in glass jars, bars instead of bottles, and konjac sponges that compost when they wear out.
The range spans face and body: turmeric and charcoal scrubs, konjac sponges, face mists, lip balms, shampoo and conditioner bars, and a vegan nail polish line.
More about BKIND
What is a konjac sponge, and do I need one?
A konjac sponge is made from the fibre of the konjac root. Dry it is hard and unusable; soak it for a minute and it softens into something gentle enough to cleanse with daily, which is what makes it a mild alternative to a scrub for people who find grains too harsh.
They wear out — expect a couple of months — and then go in the compost rather than the bin. BKIND makes them plain, with bamboo charcoal for oilier skin, and with green tea, lavender, rose or turmeric.
Which BKIND scrub should I choose?
| Scrub | For |
|---|---|
| Turmeric face scrub | Dullness — the glow one |
| Charcoal face scrub | Congested or oily skin |
| Coffee & peppermint body scrub | A wake-up scrub, coarser grain |
| Sea salt & eucalyptus body scrub | Rough patches on legs and arms |
Face scrubs once or twice a week is plenty. Body scrubs can take more, but go on damp skin before soap rather than instead of it.
The shampoo and conditioner bars
BKIND makes a matched orange and eucalyptus pair. Rub the shampoo bar on your scalp, lather with your hands, then run the conditioner bar down the lengths — not the roots, which is the mistake that makes people think bars leave hair flat.
Let both dry out between washes; a bar left sitting in water disappears in a fraction of the time.
Face mists and lip balms
Two mists: lavender and cornflower, and a rose water, witch hazel and aloe blend that suits oilier skin. Both work as a toner step or a refresh over makeup.
The lip balms come in peppermint, lemon and lime, and berries.
Vegan nail polish
BKIND's polish line is free of the usual suspects and comes with matching base and top coats. Stock moves in and out on the colours, so it is worth checking back if the shade you want is not showing.
