Buck Naked
Buck Naked Soap Company makes vegan bar soap in small batches in Canada. The range runs from plain and gentle — oatmeal and almond milk, chamomile and calendula — through to charcoal, coffee, dead sea mud and himalayan salt.
The line goes well past soap: bath salt soaks, coconut milk baths, sugar scrubs, beard balm and oil, and a few ready-made essentials bags.
More about Buck Naked
Which Buck Naked soap should I start with?
The bars differ more in what they do than in how they smell. Pick the row that matches your skin and the scent follows from it.
| If your skin is | Try |
|---|---|
| Sensitive or easily irritated | Oatmeal & almond milk, or chamomile & calendula castile |
| Oily or breakout-prone | Charcoal & anise, or poppy seed & tea tree |
| Dry | Shea butter & french green clay, or avocado |
| After something scrubby | Coffee start up, or himalayan salt |
| Just after a scent you like | Canadian balsam fir & lavender, indigo, or the old fashioned |
How is this different from a supermarket bar?
Buck Naked handmake their bars in small batches using the traditional cold-process method. Most drugstore “soap” bars are synthetic detergent bars produced by a different process entirely.
As with many handmade soap bars, keeping the bar dry between uses is the thing that extends its life. How long a bar lasts depends on the oils, the cure and its size as much as anything else — but a bar left sitting in water will always disappear faster than one that drains.
What are the bath salt soaks for?
They are for soaking rather than washing — you run the bath, add a scoop, and get in. Buck Naked makes them on three different bases: dead sea salt, himalayan salt, and a magnesium blend in the old fashioned soak.
The coconut milk baths are the softer alternative: milk powder and clay instead of salt, which suits skin that finds a salt soak drying.
Do the sugar scrubs replace soap?
No — a sugar scrub exfoliates but does not really clean, so it goes on before the soap rather than instead of it. Use one once or twice a week on damp skin, rinse, then wash as normal.
Scrub scents mirror the soaps: vanilla chai, jasmine and charcoal, geranium and purple clay.
Beard care and gift bags
There is a small men's line here too: bergamot and black pepper beard balm and cedar and sage beard oil. The essentials bags collect several products into one ready-made gift, which saves assembling a set yourself.
