Dr. Squatch makes cold-process bar soap for men — Pine Tar, Wood Barrel Bourbon, Gold Moss and the rest — alongside a grooming range that has grown well past soap: deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, face wash and cologne.

Which Dr. Squatch soap should I start with?

Is it just soap?
No, but the soap is the core of it. The range also runs to aluminum-free deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, a face wash, cologne, a cedarwood soap dish and gift sets built around a couple of bars.
One distinction worth making on the deodorant: aluminum-free deodorant works on odour, not on sweat. It is not an antiperspirant and is not intended to stop you perspiring — if that is what you are after, this is not the swap to make.
Worth setting expectations on stock too: we keep the bar soap deep, while the grooming extensions come and go in smaller quantities. If a deodorant scent you want is showing as sold out, it is usually back rather than gone.
How do I stop the bar disappearing in two weeks?
Dr. Squatch's bars are cold-processed, and a cold-process bar dissolves in standing water — so the single biggest factor is drainage, not how often you use it. A bar left in a puddle in the corner of the tub will vanish in a fraction of the time one that dries out between showers.
Dr. Squatch's cedarwood Soap Saver is a slatted dish that lets it drain; any dish that keeps the bar out of water does the same job. Keeping it out of the direct spray helps as much again.
What are the limited editions?
Alongside the permanent scents there is a rotating run of collaborations and seasonals — Halloween, Jurassic Park, Halo, Call of Duty, a FIFA World Cup edition, the Galaxy series. They are made once and not repeated, so when a run sells through it is finished rather than on backorder.
