Bandages, first aid kits and the things you reach for after a scrape, a bite or a long walk — in bamboo and fabric rather than plastic.
PATCH make compostable bamboo strips; Welly make flex fabric bandages in reusable tins that children actually want to wear.
Which bandage do I need?
| Situation | Reach for |
|---|---|
| Everyday cuts and grazes | PATCH natural bamboo strips — the plain ones |
| A child who needs convincing | Welly prints, or PATCH panda |
| Bites and splinters | PATCH activated charcoal |
| Knees, elbows, bigger grazes | PATCH large |
| Bag, glovebox or first aid box | The travel tins and the 77-piece kit |
| Joints and sport | STRAP bamboo body tape |
The 100-strip value packs work out considerably cheaper per bandage than the small boxes, and bandages do not meaningfully expire.
Bamboo or fabric?
PATCH strips are bamboo fibre rather than plastic, so they break down instead of persisting, and they are hypoallergenic and latex-free — the ones to try if ordinary plasters leave you with a red rectangle.
Welly's are flex fabric, which stretches and stays put better over knuckles and joints. The trade-off is straightforward: bamboo composts, fabric flexes. Households with children often keep both.
The tins are the point with Welly
Welly bandages come in a reusable tin rather than a cardboard box — it survives a backpack, and it gets refilled rather than replaced. The Glow Party ones glow in the dark and the Chameleon ones change colour, which is a more effective argument with a crying five-year-old than anything written on the packet.
Kits: which size?
- 29-piece travel tin — a bag or glovebox
- 77-piece kit — the one for the house
- Kids' on-the-go tin — school bags and day trips
- Pet first aid kit — for the dog rather than the family
What else is on this shelf
Beyond wound care there is bite relief — PATCH charcoal spots for after, ZAPPP citronella stickers for children before — plus eucalyptus shower melts and a magnesium oil for aching muscles.
These are everyday first aid supplies, not medical treatment. Anything deep, dirty, or not closing wants a pharmacist or a doctor rather than a bandage.
