Check the load count on the pack before comparing prices — they are sold in 32, 64 and 384-load sizes, so the sticker price is not comparable between them.
How do you actually use one?
One strip goes straight into the drum with the laundry — not the detergent drawer, where it can stick before it dissolves. Tear a strip in half for a small or lightly soiled load, and use two for a heavily soiled or oversized one.
They work in cold water and in HE machines, which is the main practical question people have.
Why bother switching from a jug
Liquid detergent is mostly water, so a jug is largely weight and plastic being shipped around the country. A strip is the detergent without the water — a 64-load pack fits through a letterbox.
The other honest advantage is dosing. A strip is pre-measured, so you cannot over-pour, which is the most common reason laundry comes out stiff or residue-streaked.

Same idea applied to household cleaning: a disinfecting strip in lemon fresh that you dissolve into your own spray bottle, so you buy the cleaner without buying another plastic trigger bottle each time.
