How to choose

The scent is not the choice — the formulation is

Humble sells the same scents across three formulations, and that is the part people find confusing: mountain lavender exists as a classic stick, a vegan stick and a plastic-free tube. Settle the formulation first, then pick a scent from the list. Doing it the other way round is how people end up with the wrong one.

The default

All natural

The original formula in a plastic push-up tube, and the one to take unless one of the other two applies. It is also the longest scent list of the three, which is the reason most people end up here.

No animal-derived ingredients

Vegan

The same deodorant without beeswax, which is what the classic formula uses to hold the stick together. A shorter scent list as a result, so start here if you avoid animal-derived ingredients and treat the scent as the compromise.

Paper tube

Plastic free

The same stick in a paperboard push-up tube rather than a plastic one — the one to take if the packaging is the point. It is the best-stocked of the three, and the mountain lavender here is the vegan formula in the paper tube, so that one covers both.

Coming off an antiperspirant

You will still sweat

A natural deodorant is not an antiperspirant. It works on the bacteria that cause odour, not on the sweating itself, so the sweating carries on as before. That is the design rather than the product failing.

Give it two weeks

Most people smell more than usual for a fortnight after coming off an aluminium antiperspirant, then it settles. Judge a new deodorant at the end of that, not in the first few days.

Reapply after exercise

One application in the morning is not meant to cover a workout. Top it up rather than expecting a single go to last all day.

The list runs to a dozen or more, so it is easier to think in families than to read all of them. Not every scent is in stock in every formulation — the cards above show what is available now.

Woody and resinous

Palo santo & frankincense, black spruce, patchouli & copal.

Fresh and herbal

Lemongrass & sage, rosemary & mint, geranium & vetiver.

Floral

Mountain lavender, moroccan rose, lavender & holy basil.

Warm and citrus

Bergamot & ginger, sweet orange & cinnamon, texas cedarwood & grapefruit.

There is a simply unscented one as well, for anyone who would rather their deodorant did not compete with everything else they are wearing.
