huppy
Huppy makes a complete plastic-free oral care routine: toothpaste tablets and mouthwash tablets in refillable tins, floss in a glass container, a bamboo toothbrush, a tongue cleaner and breath mints.
Almost everything has a refill, which is the point of the brand — you buy the container once and restock it in a compostable pouch after that.
More about huppy
What does a full Huppy routine look like?
Huppy is unusual in covering the whole routine rather than one product, so it is worth seeing it laid out.
| Step | Product |
|---|---|
| Brush | Bamboo toothbrush, plus toothpaste tablets in peppermint, charcoal mint, cinnamon or kids' watermelon strawberry |
| Floss | Refillable glass floss container, with 2-pack refills |
| Rinse | Cool Mint mouthwash tablets, 124 to a tin |
| Finish | Stainless steel tongue cleaner, sugar-free breath mints |
Buy the tin once, then buy refills
Nearly every Huppy product splits into a container and a refill. The toothpaste tablets come in a refillable aluminum tin, and after that you buy the 62-tablet compostable refill pouch. The floss is a glass container with a 2-pack of refill spools. The mouthwash tablets work the same way.
The refill always costs less than the tin, so the first order is the expensive one and every order after it is cheaper and smaller. There is also a spare refillable tin if you want one for a travel bag or a second bathroom.
What is hydroxyapatite, and why no fluoride?
Huppy's toothpaste tablets are fluoride-free and use nano-hydroxyapatite instead — a calcium mineral that is a main component of tooth enamel, sold as a fluoride alternative.
Being fluoride-free means these do not carry an anticavity claim. If you have active decay, or your dentist has specifically told you to use fluoride, raise it with them before switching the whole household over.
Do the tablets actually work like toothpaste?
You chew one until it breaks up, then brush with a wet brush and it foams into a normal paste. Nothing else about brushing changes, and one tablet is one brushing, so there is no squeezing or guessing at quantity.
They are a solid, which means they do not count against carry-on liquid limits and cannot leak in a bag — the reason most people try them in the first place.
